I can't figure out the name because it sounds like the weather girl at a local TV station. Not like the ones that sang about it raining men. No, I picture a blonde in front of a green screen motioning a cold front in the wrong direction. But no, this is one of those tray-and-tongs Chinese bakeries that make it way too convenient for you to get one of everything. It's a tight space which makes social distancing a problem, especially from the people apparently feeding an army. I just couldn't help myself and grabbed the $2 Milk Cakes and the $1.60 Coconut Tart. The two bucks gets you two cakes which were a spongey vanilla treat with just a slight browning on top to remind you it came from an oven (photo: https://bit.ly/2VxuErh). The tart was a more fully baked creation with just the right amount of coconut and the requisite maraschino cherry embedded on top (photo: https://bit.ly/2VBxThy). As Sunny Wheatfield herself would say, "Fair and warmer!" BAKED GOODS - 4 stars...delectable treats, not overly sweet AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...well organized and maintained but decidedly crowded SERVICE - 3 stars...decidedly surly TOTAL - 4 stars...the weather girl is singing about raining desserts RELATED - Exploring the Sunset? Asian Mom Approved. Good asian bakery for all types of sliced bread and the best sweet melon cakes (lou po bang). Right next to the newly opened Sweet Honey Desserts. Recommended items: -Sweet melon cake (also known as wife cake): These are LOADED with chewy, sweet melon paste. They're thick and fat in a flaky pastry when it's usually thin and flat at other bakeries -Bread: They slice it fresh for you. All kinds of flavors: sesame, sweet, salt, pork sung (love this one), etc. -Lemon sponge rolls Cash Only!

I stopped by on a whim as they were closing and from the slim pickings left after being open all day on a Sunday, I chose a Red bean bun (4.5 stars!). This was crazy soft and lightly sweet. A great dessert you can grab if you're in the neighborhood!

I come here for the cakes and pastries (for bread, I prefer Pineapple King and ShengKee, depending on what exactly I want). A recent standout has been the durian crepe cake, which is made in the mille crepe style albeit not with as many layers as the fancier ones you'd find that cost twice as much. For $6, I thought this cake was amazing--creamy and literally bursting with sweet custardy durian with each bite! They sell a mango version too but that one tasted more like a their typical white cake with fruit to me (you can't really taste the layers which I think is the point of the mille crepe cake). As for their other cakes, I look forward to buying them for special occasions as I think their fruit designs are especially beautiful and festive. The other pastries sold here are also pretty good, notably the egg tarts. I'm a fan of their taro and egg yolk pastries too--flaky, buttery, and delicious!

Cute (they have wagon cart displays for their baked goods!), clean, and modern place with regular Chinese bakery options along with some newer, fusion-y ones like the Black Sesame Walnut bun. We bought a variety of items like the Taro Pastries (pretty, but didn't love the filling), Walnut Tarts (decent), and Egg Custard Tarts (good), but the Black Sesame Walnut bun was the one that really stood out. The one we bought was piping hot and ridiculously delicious with a great nutty / sesame taste swirled throughout the bun. Will definitely be back for the sesame bun!
